1. An overview of data protection

General information

The following information will provide you with an easy to navigate overview of what happens to your personal data when you visit this website. The term "personal data" comprises all data that can be used to identify you personally. For detailed information about data protection, please consult the full Privacy Policy below.

Who is responsible for data collected on this website (the "Data Fiduciary")?

Data on this website is processed by Humane Aviation Foundation, the operator of this website. Our contact details are set out in Part A above and in the "Information about the Data Fiduciary" section below.

How do we collect your data?

We collect data that you share with us directly — for instance, information you enter into our contact form or newsletter sign-up.

Other data is collected automatically by our IT systems when you visit the website. This is primarily technical information (e.g. browser, operating system, or time of access), recorded automatically as soon as you access this website.

What do we use your data for?

Some data is collected to ensure the website functions correctly and securely. Other data may be used to understand how visitors use the site. If you sign up for our newsletter or contact us through the website, the data you provide is used for that specific purpose.

What rights do you have regarding your data?

Under the Digital Personal Data Protection Act, 2023 ("DPDP Act") and applicable Indian law, you have the right to obtain confirmation of whether we hold your personal data, to access a summary of the data processed, and to request correction, completion, or erasure of your personal data. You have the right to withdraw any consent you have given us at any time, with effect going forward. You also have the right to nominate another individual to exercise these rights on your behalf in the event of your death or incapacity, and the right to lodge a grievance with us (see the Grievance Officer details below) and, where applicable, with the Data Protection Board of India.

Please contact us at any time if you have questions about this or any other data protection matter.

2. Hosting

We host the content of our website with the following provider:

IONOS

The provider is IONOS SE, Elgendorfer Str. 57, 56410 Montabaur, Germany ("IONOS"). Whenever you visit our website, IONOS records log files including your IP address. For details, see IONOS's privacy policy: https://www.ionos.de/terms-gtc/terms-privacy.

We use IONOS because we have a legitimate interest in presenting a dependable and secure website. Where processing depends on your consent (for example, for non-essential cookies), we rely on that consent, which you may withdraw at any time.

Data processing: We have entered into a data processing agreement with IONOS, requiring them to process personal data of our website visitors only on our instructions and consistent with applicable data protection law.

3. General and mandatory information

Data protection

We take the protection of your personal data seriously and handle it as confidential information, in compliance with applicable Indian data protection law and this Privacy Policy.

We note that data transmission over the internet (e.g. email) can have security gaps, and complete protection against third-party access is not always possible.

You may contact the Grievance Officer with any complaints or concerns regarding the processing of your personal data. We will acknowledge and address grievances within the timeframe required by applicable law.

Storage duration

Unless a more specific retention period is stated in this Privacy Policy, your personal data will be retained only for as long as necessary for the purpose it was collected. Where you withdraw consent or request erasure, we will delete your data unless we are required or permitted to retain it for a longer period under applicable law (for example, tax or accounting record-keeping requirements).

Legal basis for processing

Where we process your personal data on the basis of your consent, that consent constitutes the legal basis for processing under the DPDP Act. Consent can be withdrawn at any time, without affecting the lawfulness of processing carried out before withdrawal. Where processing is necessary to fulfil a contract with you, to comply with a legal obligation, or falls under a "legitimate use" recognised under the DPDP Act (such as data voluntarily provided to us by you for a specified purpose), we process your data on that basis.

Recipients of personal data

We work with a number of external service providers as part of our activities, which may require sharing personal data with them. We only share personal data with third parties where necessary to fulfil a service to you, where required by law, or where you have consented to the sharing. Where we use processors, we do so under a written agreement obliging them to process personal data only on our instructions.

Withdrawing your consent

Many data processing activities are only possible with your express consent. You may withdraw any consent already given to us at any time, with effect for the future.

Right to grievance redressal

If you believe your personal data has been processed unlawfully, you have the right to raise a grievance with our Grievance Officer (details above) and, where applicable, to escalate the matter to the Data Protection Board of India.

SSL/TLS encryption

For security reasons and to protect confidential content (such as enquiries you submit to us), this website uses SSL or TLS encryption. You can recognise an encrypted connection by the "https://" prefix and the lock icon in your browser's address bar. When SSL/TLS encryption is active, data you transmit to us cannot be read by third parties.

Unsolicited communications

We object to the use of contact details published in our mandatory disclosures being used to send us promotional or informational material we have not expressly requested. We reserve the right to take legal action against unsolicited marketing communications, including spam.

Cookies

Our website uses "cookies" — small data files that do not damage your device. Some are session cookies, deleted automatically once you leave the site; others are permanent cookies, stored on your device until deleted manually or by your browser.

Some cookies are essential for the website to function (e.g. security or core navigation features). Others help us understand how visitors use the site, and are only set with your consent.

You can configure your browser to notify you when cookies are set, to accept cookies only in certain cases, or to reject them altogether. Disabling cookies may limit some functions of this website.

Details of the specific cookies and services used on this website are set out below.

CCM19 (cookie consent management)

Our website uses CCM19 to obtain and record your consent to the use of certain cookies and technologies, in a compliant and auditable manner. The provider is Papoo Software & Media GmbH, Auguststr. 4, 53229 Bonn, Germany ("CCM19").

When you visit our website, a connection is made to CCM19's servers to record your consent choices. CCM19 then stores a cookie in your browser to remember your preference. This data is retained until you ask us to delete it, delete the cookie yourself, or it is no longer needed for its purpose.

Data processing: We have a data processing agreement with CCM19 requiring them to process personal data of our website visitors only on our instructions and in compliance with applicable data protection law.

If you sign up for our newsletter, we collect your email address and, where provided, your name. This data is used solely to send you the newsletter.

Our newsletter is managed using MailPoet, a newsletter plugin installed on our own website. Your subscriber data is stored in our own website database, on our hosting infrastructure, and is not transmitted to MailPoet's sending service.

In the course of delivering the email to you, IONOS processes your email address as our service provider. For details, see IONOS's privacy policy: https://www.ionos.de/terms-gtc/terms-privacy.

We only send you a newsletter with your consent (opt-in). You can withdraw this consent and unsubscribe at any time, using the unsubscribe link included in every newsletter email, or by contacting us directly. Once you unsubscribe, we delete your data from our newsletter list, unless we are required to retain a record of your unsubscribe request for compliance purposes.

We do not sell or share your newsletter data with third parties, and we do not use it for any purpose beyond sending the newsletter you signed up for.
